Albert Gallatin (1761-1849): Born in Switzerland Albert Gallatin immigrated to America in 1780. In 1795 he was elected into the House of Representatives and served until being appointed Secretary of Treasury in 1801. He was appointed by President Jefferson. Gallatin continued service as Secretary of Treasury under President Madison until 1814. This was the longest term served by any Secretary of Treasury in history.
